Ottawa County Jail Roster

The Ottawa County, Michigan inmate registry is a public resource that allows anyone to check who is currently in custody at the local jail. OttawaCourt.us provides access to public information about current and recently arrested individuals. Additionally, searches can be conducted through the official portal of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Corrections Division, by phone, or in person at the jail reception. The registry allows citizens to learn about the detention status, charges, and booking details of a specific individual. The registry is maintained by the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office, and the data is updated hourly.

You can check if a person is in custody in several ways — online, by phone, or by visiting in person.

Online Search

  1. Open the Ottawa County Jail Inmate Search page.
  2. Enter the person's last name in the appropriate field. Add the first name if necessary.
  3. Click the search button. The system will display a list of individuals matching the entered data.

  • Booking number, if known

Juvenile offenders are not displayed in the public registry. This restriction is established by Michigan law.

Find Ottawa Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created at the moment a detained person is officially processed into the jail. This process includes recording personal information, photographing, fingerprinting, and entering information into the electronic system.

Each booking record contains:

  • A unique booking number
  • Date and time of processing
  • List of charges
  • Name of the arresting agency (city police, state patrol, sheriff's office, etc.)
  • Bail information, if set

Online access to these records is provided by the Ottawa County Corrections Division portal. An arrest recorded in the registry does not imply the person is guilty — it is merely a fact of detention and custody.

For a more in-depth criminal history check, you can use the ICHAT by Michigan State Police system, which holds public records of criminal history at the state level. If a person has been sentenced to imprisonment in a state correctional facility, information can be found through OTIS — Offender Tracking Information System.

Search the Ottawa Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The registry supports two main search methods.

Search by Last Name

Enter the last name in full. The system is not case-sensitive, but spelling matters — one incorrect letter can yield no results. If the last name is common (e.g., Smith or Johnson), add the first name to narrow down the list. Partial matches may not be supported, so enter the last name in full.

Search by Booking Number

The booking number is the most accurate identifier. It eliminates confusion between individuals with the same last name. Usually, this number is known to the attorney, relatives (if informed at arrest), or can be obtained by calling the jail.

If the Search Yields No Results

  • Check the spelling of the last name. Try alternative spellings.
  • The person may have already been released — the registry only shows those currently in custody.
  • Booking may not be completed yet: there can be a delay between the actual arrest and the appearance of the record in the system.
  • The person may have been transferred to another facility or held at the state level. Check OTIS.
  • Contact the jail by phone at (616) 738-4000 for clarification.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Ottawa

The Ottawa County inmate registry is updated hourly. This means there can be a delay of several minutes to an hour between the time of arrest and the appearance of the record on the portal. During peak periods — for example, on weekends — the delay sometimes increases.

Important limitations to be aware of:

  • The registry only shows individuals who are currently in custody. Once released, the record disappears.
  • This is not an archive. Historical data on past bookings is not available through this portal.
  • Errors occur. The Sheriff's Office requests that inaccuracies in the posted information be reported.
  • The privacy of crime victims is protected by MCL 780.818 and Article I, § 24 of the Michigan Constitution — certain information may be restricted.

To obtain archival records or documents not available in the online registry, submit a written request to the Sheriff's Office Corrections Division. Typically, you need to provide the person's full name, approximate date of arrest, and purpose of the request. A response may involve an administrative fee for document copying.
